About SAM & The Role: SAM is a growing startup with offices in Edmonton, CA & London, UK. We use AI and social media data to power the worlds first real-time knowledge engine. Everyday SAM detects breaking news events security issues from everyday social media chatter; we organize raw unstructured data so you know exactly what is happening anywhere in the world quickly and accurately.

The Data Quality Manager position will be based in our London office where our CEO, Sales and Marketing team sit. In proper startup fashion, this role will start as a manager position with lot of growth potential as the first hire of this department here at SAM. About You: You are extremely proficient with social media newsgathering, fact finding and verification. You are well organised and know how to detail, define and execute processes. You are a self-starter and someone who can spot problems and then decide how to report or correct them (knowing the difference is key). Lastly, you are someone who can multitask well in order to track multiple events and work in a busy breaking news environment.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will work very closely with the SAM development, data science, sales, and marketing teams as well as SAM clients to ensure over all quality of data our system produces. You will be directly responsible for the quality of data our system uses (from social sources, geo data bases, official gov source and more) and for the quality of every data point we send (alerts, content, output). You will also work closely with our data science team to define verification, detection and trend models.

Our system sends hundreds of alerts every day – a big part of this role will be ensuring the quality of those alerts.

Hard Requirements:

  • London based
  • Minimum 2 years experience with social newsgathering (in a Newsroom, GSOC or similar)
