We couldn’t be more excited to announce that SAM has been named winner of the first inaugural Cultural Start-up Award, at the conclusion of Enterprising Culture, a major international forum for Franco-Canadian creative and cultural industry start-ups.

The event, was produced by the Canadian Film Centre’s Media Lab (CFC Media Lab) and the Cultural Service of the Embassy of France in Canada, in partnership with Forum d’Avignon. Twelve start-up founders — six from Canada, five from France — pitched for the award and the jury selected a Canadian winner, SAM, and French winner, Editions Animées.

The Award finalists are some of the most innovative and high-potential startups in the cultural field today. The winner’s have been offered the opportunity to receive one week of intensive immersion and commercialization activities. CFC Media Lab’s IDEABOOST Accelerator will host the winning French company in Canada, while Forum d’Avignon will host the Canadian company in France.

“After our first Enterprising Culture forum it is clear that French and Canadian tech companies have a big future working together,” said Brigitte Proucelle, Cultural Counsellor, French Embassy in Canada and Cultural Start-up Award jury member. “It was wonderful to hear entrepreneurs with so many different ambitions and talents explain their work.”

We’re eager to build on this momentum and to continue strengthening our relationships with the world-class newsrooms in France!
